Summary

When Gwendy Peterson was twelve， a stranger named Richard Farris gave her a mysterious box for safekeeping。 It offered treats and vintage coins， but it was dangerous。 Pushing any of its seven coloured buttons promised death and destruction。

To all the Constant Readers out there， if you are reading this book， I hope you have already finished the first two in the trilogy。 I often hope the best serial stories can go on and on， but this one has ended in a way that is beautiful and perfect。 I often think of us Constant Readers these days， and I want to believe that we too will go on and on enjoying amazing stories together。 And of course， thanks to the authors for another outstanding addition to our favorite books。 Please keep writing。

Finished。 5 stars。 Great end to this trilogy and quite prophetic given the invasion today。 A story of actually saving the world for all mankind。 Scary idea for sure， but it is the culmination of these two authors putting together a story that sounds plausible， but hoping it is not。 Loved Gwendy’s every step of the way and actually cried at the end。 No spoilers except to say the 3 Gwendy books must be read in order。

When I started the book and got the idea of the premise， I have to admit I balked a little。 Space is not my ideal setting for any story。 But Gwendy is a great character， the button box is an intriguing and terrifying invention， and it would take wild horses to drag me away from reading anything Dark Tower related （check out that cover！） If you know King's work， I'm sure the initials of the pro/antagonist Richard Farris will have you thinking， and I certainly was too。 I have so many questions abo When I started the book and got the idea of the premise， I have to admit I balked a little。 Space is not my ideal setting for any story。 But Gwendy is a great character， the button box is an intriguing and terrifying invention， and it would take wild horses to drag me away from reading anything Dark Tower related （check out that cover！） If you know King's work， I'm sure the initials of the pro/antagonist Richard Farris will have you thinking， and I certainly was too。 I have so many questions about his motives here！！！ The inclusion of certain yellow-attired villains was another nod to older works that all link to that damn Tower， and honestly， it makes sense， considering how strange and powerful the button box is。All this King-nerdery aside， the story is perfectly paced， emotive and touching， and clearly well researched。 A tear was shed on several occasions as I followed Gwendy through her last great task。 It was the first time I've seen the dreaded Covid-29 mentioned in a novel as well， so that gave me a not inconsiderable shiver。 The pictured edition has some lovely illustrations too！It won't take you long to read this one， because you'll simply get lost in it and the chapters will fly by。 But you will enjoy it。 And if you're a Tower Junkie like I am， you'll probably come away with more questions that I really hope Sai King will answer one day - but don't fret， you can enjoy the story without having ever read a single sentence about the Tower。 All things， after all， serve the Beam。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 It was so nice to visit with Gwendy again。 I was a little skeptical of the setting in space， but it was engaging and it worked out for the context。 I was also very much glad to see another Dark Tower story， and with references back to other king universe callbacks in Derry。 It was a short enough novel that I read it quickly， and the plot and pace was good。

Interesting and enjoyable， but I felt it an odd choice to tie Gwendy further into the more cartoony aspects of the Dark Tower series。 The larger mysteries weren’t really explained， and although the stakes were high， I never felt much tension。 Not sure this should have been a trilogy; the first book was amazing and the next two were more interesting than exciting。

Given that the second book in this series was a thinly disguised political commentary， with a less than stellar ending， I almost didn’t read this one…but I’m very glad I did。 Gwendy’s Final Task redeemed Mr。 King and Mr。 Chizmar， at least in my book （see what I did there？） Enjoyed it immensely and am glad I read it。 If you’re a King fan， I highly recommend you do the same。
